I've been gone for a really long time. And I don't just mean MIA on the blog front, I've been out of the country for almost a month. Nine airplanes, five countries and TWO weddings. Both were to the same man though, so it's fine. Our first wedding, on the beach in Mexico, was not entirely legal so we had to go to City Hall and make it official, which we did on the way to the airport, heading to Paris/Berlin for our honeymoon.
Honestly, I didn't really know what getting married was. I mean, Rubin and I have felt married for a long time so I didn't have any desire for things to change between us. I just felt like he wasn't my boyfriend anymore, we were family and we wanted everyone to acknowledge it. Hence the wedding, which took nine long months of planning, some of which was fun, some was nightmarish. Then, all of the sudden, the wedding comes and all of these people you love so much gather around you and shower so much love upon you that you just have to stand there like an idiot because you are flabbergasted. I kinda wish I had taken lessons in being graceful because I'm sure I did a terrible job being at the center of attention. I mean I had no idea people cared about us so much or had so much hope for our future happiness. It was really a miraculous, intense, overwhelming experience. I think it will take months to fully process it. And I realized, this is what getting married is. It's having one day (or weekend, in our case) to celebrate your relationships with all the most important people in your life, not just your new spouse. It's getting to see how your relationship with your partner has effected others and making the promise to all of the people who have bought stock in your love that you will take care of it and never lose it. Our wedding day was really the best day of my life and I will cherish the memories for a lifetime. Did I mention, my HUSBAND is just the most amazing man on the planet?
Anyway, the profesh pics won't be ready for awhile so for those of you who didn't forget about me in this last month, here are some guest photos of our first wedding and some photos of our second wedding taken by Carrie Firestone; bridesmaid, sister-in-law, witness and all around lovely human.
